Margaret Merrifield
Associate
Maggie Merrifield focuses her practice on civil and criminal litigation. Drawing on her breadth of experience from government and corporate legal environments, Maggie understands how complex legal research, nuanced strategic analysis, and compelling advocacy can make the difference in any given case.
Maggie’s academic credentials are strong: she graduated from the University of Kentucky with highest honors, earning a triple major in Political Science, Foreign Language, and International Economics, with a focus on Chinese language. She earned her J.D. with high honors from the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., where she served as Managing Editor of the American University International Law Review, competed internationally in negotiation and mediation competitions as part of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Honor Society, and worked as a Teaching Assistant for the Legal Research and Writing program.
As a law student, Maggie gained civil and criminal litigation experience by working at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., the Missouri State Public Defender’s Office in St. Louis County, Missouri, and by representing clients through a civil litigation clinic in Washington, D.C. Superior Court. She also gained invaluable corporate legal experience by working in the legal department of Rawlings Sporting Goods, where she collaborated with multiple departments to ensure contract compliance through the lens of differing state laws—giving her perspective into the intersection of business and law that is frequently critical to the firm’s clients.
Originally from St. Louis, Maggie understands the region inside and out. She is a competitor at heart—inside the courtroom and, when not at work, on the soccer field.
* Maggie is currently licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C. and is working under the supervision of licensed Missouri attorneys on Missouri cases while she seeks Missouri licensure.
